Come join us in Burien and you will find six miles of gorgeous Puget Sound Shoreline, expansive mountain views, pristine waterfront parks and beaches, and a city that is reinventing itself. The city has just completed a new Town Square Park with walking trails, plants, trees and sculptures. There is a new city hall and library building, and a beautiful transit center with a sculpture. An exciting Burien/ Interim Art Space "B/ IAS" that will be used to display art work for one year. Town Square condominiums with retail stores and office space are in the process of being built. There are also plans to build a combination hotel, conference center and condominium complex near the new Town Square, and to convert the old library into a Community Center.

Already completed in the city´s award winning make over are widened sidewalks, benches, landscaping, and lampposts with underground wiring and tree-lined streets. Best of all there is an enthusiastic group of new boutique and restaurant owners now located in the vibrant historical old town commercial district and the new Town Square as well. The city hangs flower baskets in the summer, Christmas lights in the winter, and American Flags for the Fourth of July.

Events during the year include spring egg hunts, Farmers Markets, a garden tour, vintage car shows, Strawberry and Heritage Festival, Fourth of July Parade, Summer Concerts in the Park, Art Walk, October and Winter Festivals. The Community enthusiastically supports the creative arts including but not limited to stained glass and pottery studios, bands, dance groups and live theater.

Both the Highline School District and the Highline Medical Center have done some major expansion and remodeling. There are several brand new schools with strong public support, and the Highline Medical Center opened a promenant cancer care center in 2005.
